Location Guide

San Diego is filled with incredible, dramatic and beautiful locations. I have put together this guide to help you choose a location for your session. In a recent blog post titled, Choosing a Location For Your Session, I explained what to consider when choosing your location. There are many pretty spots around, but not every spot works best for photos, depending on the lighting situation or how crowded it will be while we are shooting. This guide is a list of my favorite locations in the area. That being said, I am always up for something new so if there is a certain spot that is special to you, I am always up for an adventure.

Windansea Beach

Windansea Beach is an absolutely beautiful area with dramatic rocks, an adorable set of wooden stairs and a nice clean beach. I love going here for couples, lifestyle or portrait sessions.

La Jolla Tide Pools

This is my favorite spot to go with families. There are a variety of great spots to go to, including the classic La Jolla Cove backdrop. The water here is calm, bright and blue, a perfect spot if you're interested in having a dip in the ocean at the end of the session.

Sunset Cliffs

In my opinion, Sunset Cliffs is the most beautiful spot in San Diego. As described in the name, this spot is at its prime during sunset time. It can get crowded here during sunset especially on weekends, but I'm always able to find a spot that enables us to have a calm and beautiful session.

Mission Trails

There's a reason this is my #1 most frequented location. It is absolutely gorgeous! This dreamy spot gives the perfect location for a large group or even just a portrait session. I have done it all here! I love the mountains in the background and having my clients run through this big open field.

Hotel Del Coronado

This is a classic San Diego spot. I love taking my clients from out of town here because it is so iconic. Sunsets are always beautiful at this spot. The water is clean and sand is white. So dreamy! It can get crowded in the summer, but during off season its empty here!

San Elijo Lagoon

If you don't mind a bit of a walk, this location is perfect and very different from anything else you can find in San Diego. I love going here because we have a field of "flowers" all year long!

La Jolla Pier

Theres something about how the pier frames a subject perfectly that sets my heart on fire. I love this spot and would definitely reccomend it for any type of session. Aside from the pier, we can shoot near the Torrey Pines cliffs for a beautiful, dramatic background.

Premium locations

While I love San Diego, I am also a destination photographer. Here are a few of my favorite spots I have had the chance to shoot at. While these are outside my area, it is 100% worth the drive to shoot at these breathtaking and unique spots.
